WD-40 is definitely one of those magical human creations that does more than the instructions on the can promises! It is probably present in every American home's tool box - and much like duct-tape, people have managed to find many uses for this lubricant that are downright brilliant.
The following ideas will make you glad that someone thought outside of the box and helped you solve a problem without having to purchase yet another product.
Cotton Ball Fire Starters
We start the list off with this ingenious method of using cotton balls as fire starters even when wet. Simply spray cotton balls with WD-40 until saturated. Then carry them to your next camping trip, and even on a rainy day - you will have a handy fire starter that will stay lit for at least 10-15 minutes.
You can now eat your spaghetti and meatballs with a little less care. Any sauce that might happen to find its way onto your clothes can now be easily removed by spraying WD-40 and gently scrubbing the area with warm soapy water.
Slug And Snail Repellent
If you spend any time in the garden, then you know about the slug and snails that materialize out of nowhere and seem to crawl over every surface. No more though! Simply spray some WD-40 on the pot of the surface in question, which will make the area too slick for the little critters to climb and cling.
Prevent Chalk Lines From Washing Away
Did your children just create a masterpiece on the driveway or the sidewalk? Wish to make it last a little longer? Spray it with WD-40 to make the chalk waterproof and last a little longer!
Remove Crayons From Walls
But if the same children decided to get creative on the walls inside your home, just take a deep breath and reward their artsiness anyway - since removing those stains with a bit of WD-40 will be easier than anything else! All you need to do is spray a light coat and then scrub gently with a soft cloth.
Remove Stuck Chewing Gum
Whether a piece of already chewed gum made it to your shoe soles or worse, your hair, WD-40 is ready for the rescue. Spray the gum with WD-40, wait, and then just pull off the gum like it never happened.
Make Shoes Waterproof
There is no need to pay extra for a specialized spray to make your shoes waterproof in the rain and snow. Just give them a light spray with WD-40 and the water and snow are sure to just slide off. As an added bonus, WD-40 will also help you remove any salt stains by just spraying and wiping the mucky area.
Car decals that are past their prime are a pain to remove. Same can be said for stickers on glass objects or windows. A simple solution is to simply spray them with WD-40, wait for a minute or two and then peel off, or use a scraper to lightly remove the gunk.
Clean Golf Clubs
Since golf clubs cost so much money, it makes sense to take good care of them! Using WD-40 to wipe them periodically will make them last longer and keep them looking shiny and new.
Remove Candle Wax
If you have some spilled wax on your furniture, resist the urge to scrap it off. An easier and safer method that will protect the surface from any scratches is using WD-40. Just spray, wait, and wipe off.
Prevent Outdoor Mildew
If there are corners or spots outside your home that collect water and are prone to mildew, then look no further than the can of WD-40. Just spray the surface when dry and clean and watch as the water is repelled preventing any future mildew.
